General information

The 3D Swiss Retainer has been invented by the Swiss Company Hostettler Dental AG. It is fully virtually 3D designed, using a industrial CAD software.

The key advantage of using this unique CAD software is that designing/constructing in all three dimensions is possible – without any limitations.

A retainer with very precise adjacent surfaces that especially in the upper jaw recognizes and solves limitations implied by the scanned counter bite, i.e. a small distance to the gingiva as well as without a bite to the opposing teeth (early contact).

The retainer is milled out of a (grade 5) titanium blank, based on the data set, by a 5-axis milling machine, using a proprietary CAM procedure.

At the adhesive points it is roughened, in order to achieve an extended bonding surface for improved adhesive bondage.

Using the Quick-Tray transfer aid (indirect bondage system), the 3D Swiss Titanium Retainer can be bonded precise and with ease.

The retainer is bonded conventionally using the acid-etching technique and composite material procedure, whereby a flow-type is recommended. Contrary to the bonding to steel retainers, thick adhesive points are not required. Due to the precise shape of the 3D retainer, a better mouth hygiene is possible. The overall rounded surface of the 3D Swiss Retainer enables a maximum wearing comfort.

Twistflex Retainer made of steel

Apposed to standard retainer versions made of steel the 3D Swiss Retainer – a mono-piece titanium retainer – provides excellent biocompatibility and has due to its titanium (grade 5) a proprietary elasticity. Manual band steel retainers can simply not match the position of the 3D Swiss Retainer.

As opposed to these, the solution with the mono-piece titanium retainers provides excellent bio-compatibility and basic material depending elasticity.

User advantages

Unique

Unique due to its 3D construction design

3D design enables optimum use of narrow spaces

Can be separately produced for each tooth in all dimensions

Perfect

Does not induce tensions when applied

Simple application, as the retainer fits one single correct position in relation to the tooth surfaces only – together with the Quick-Tray transfer aid bonding comes with ease.

Quick and precise adherence through silicon key application.

Lasting durability

Milled from grade 5 titanium, thus, excellent bio-compatibility and titanium implied elasticity

Roughened adhesive points ensure best adhesive bond

Brakage rate less than 0,5 %

100% digital

Reception of intra-oral scans

CAD software aided retainer construction

CNC machine supported retainer milling

Patient advantages
Maximum comfort through perfect tooth fit and rounded and polished surfaces
Because of the individual and precise shape, a better mouth hygiene is possible; avoiding contact caries, periodontitis and plaque formation
Bio-compatibility (titanium grade 5) of course most suitable for subjects allergic to nickel
